Category C (Class 2) to Category C+E (Class 1)
How to apply and what you'll need
APPLY FOR A PROVISIONAL LGV LICENCE
You will need to complete 2 forms from the DVLA, very similar to when you applied for your car licence. The first form is called a D2 which is the application form. The second form is called a D4 which is a medical form.
You may already have this as a qualified Category C Class 2 Driver. Medicals must be renewed every 5 years from 45 up to 65, then annually from 65.
If you do need a D4 medical this form must be completed by a doctor to show you are fit to drive an LGV. You can arrange this with your GP or at a private centre.
When you have both forms completed you will need to send them to the DVLA Swansea for processing. The DVLA states it aims to get your provisional licence to you within 3 weeks.
We provide full admin support to complete forms with you for an additional small fee.
If you would like to order the forms yourself from DVLA or print them at home click here.

AFTER YOU'VE QUALIFIED
Once you’ve qualified, there are things you need to do when working as an LGV Class 1 Driver.
Once you’ve qualified, you’ll be sent a Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) card. This is sometimes called a ‘driver qualification card’ or ‘DQC’.
You must carry your Driver CPC card while driving an LGV professionally.
You can drive without it if you’ve passed the tests and you’re waiting for it to arrive.
To stay qualified, every 5 years you must:
take 35 hours of Driver CPC training to keep driving professionally
If you’re 65 or over you must renew your LGV driving licence every year.
We have payment options available through PayPal. Credit Card transactions are accepted and a "pay in 3" option is available to spread the cost.
